Biography
Sayler Massey excels at providing client-focused assistance with patent development and prosecution at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Sayler has prosecuted patents for numerous companies across the technical fields of automotive design and systems, aerospace engineering, telecommunications, oil and gas, and machine learning applications. Sayler assists clients from individual inventors at start-up companies to multinational companies operating across many different jurisdictions.
Sayler’s experiences have enabled him to have end-to-end insight into the patent development and prosecution process. Sayler has turned napkin drawings and paper sketches into official patents and is comfortable bringing tricky cases to a fruitful ending. His broad level of experience helps turn inventors’ ideas into valuable patent portfolio contributions that stand up to challenges. Sayler has a strong attention to detail and extensive technical knowledge, allowing him to write patent applications with prior art considerations in mind and include an uncommon level of depth and detail. He is adept at converting large and small disclosures into well-written patents that thoroughly describe the related invention. Sayler takes a “technology first” approach to drafting and prosecuting patents that heavily focuses on capturing the novel aspects of a client’s inventions with broad yet precise terminology. He is well-versed at responding to rejections that may appear during prosecution and draws on his technical acumen when working with Examiners throughout the appeal and pre-appeal process.
Before working at BoMc, Sayler prosecuted patents for a boutique Intellectual Property (IP) firm for nearly six years. He received his patent agent license in October of 2022. Prior to that, Sayler received a Master’s in Automotive Systems Engineering from Kettering University in 2020 and a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering from Idaho State University. Sayler is currently enrolled at Southwestern Law School, where he will earn his J.D. in 2029.
