Biography

Peyton Gilliatt’s practice includes assisting clients with patent procurement, patent counseling, and post-grant proceedings at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Peyton has experience related to various technologies, including fintech, autonomous vehicles, augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) systems, microelectronics, semiconductor devices, IC design, control systems, and electrical power systems. Prior to joining BoMc, Peyton worked as an associate at an IP specialty firm. While there, she assisted with patent prosecution for clients in a variety of technology areas. Additionally, she assisted in representing clients in ex parte reexamination and inter partes review proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

During law school, Peyton spent two years volunteering in the Maurer Intellectual Property Clinic where she counseled individuals and small business owners on copyright, trademark, and patent matters. She also served as a Notes Editor for IP Theory Journal and was a member of the S. Jay Plager Intellectual Property Inn of Court.

Prior to starting her career as an IP attorney, Peyton worked as an electrical engineer for General Dynamics Electric Boat and Naval Surface Warfare Center, Crane Division. In these positions, she assisted in the maintenance and modernization of electrical systems in U.S. Naval Submarines and performed root cause failure analysis of microelectronics in flight systems and counterfeit detection of electronic components in support of obsolesce risk management.

  • Strengthened the U.S. patent portfolio of a leading company in the areas of autonomous vehicles and advanced driving systems.
  • Drafted office actions to successfully overcome rejections and result in notices of allowance for companies practicing in various areas of consumer electronics.
  • Successfully drafted reexamination requests which were granted by the USPTO on behalf of petitioners in ex parte reexaminations.
