Biography

Ethan Goldschen assists clients in preparing and prosecuting patents across various technologies including the design, implementation, and deployment of large language models. Ethan also drafts patent applications directed towards generative AI models for software vulnerability detection and data breach prevention. In addition to prosecution, he has represented both petitioners and patent owners in IPR proceedings at the PTAB. Ethan has also represented patent owners in district court litigation.

Ethan earned his J.D. from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law. During law school, he interned in-house at a telecommunications company where he analyzed issues regarding copyright law and machine learning. Ethan further assisted in-house counsel in analyzing internal artificial intelligence practices in light of data privacy legislation. Ethan also participated in a pro bono business and patent clinic. He assisted the local community to find new businesses and obtain patent protection for their inventions. In addition, he participated in UCLA’s Cybercrimes Moot Court Competition involving issues surrounding the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act and Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act.

Prior to law school, Ethan received his B.S. and M.S. in computer science from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. During graduate school, he was a teaching assistant for an operating systems course. Following graduate school, Ethan worked as a software engineer at Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory, working on projects related to software-defined radios and machine learning applied to signal processing.
