Biography
Anna Hankal’s patent prosecution practice blends a depth of technical experience as a software engineer with a love for writing and client-centered business strategy. Anna works alongside her clients to generate and protect valuable IP, building strategic patent portfolios built to last in the fast-moving technological landscapes of computing and automation. Prior to joining BoMc, Anna was an attorney at a leading intellectual property law firm where her practice focused on patent prosecution in the areas of software, cloud computing, analytics, and artificial intelligence.
Anna received her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School. Before attending law school, Anna worked as a software consultant focused on data and analytics, working with clients in the automotive, insurance, and government sectors. During this time, she worked with the local government in Puerto Rico to deliver financial transparency for FEMA funding in the wake of hurricanes Irma and Maria. She then pursued her interest in technology startups and sustainable fashion while working at Rent the Runway. At Rent the Runway, she assisted with the company’s IPO and worked alongside creatives to deliver brand campaigns and editorial across the company’s platforms.

Highlights
- Served as a housing law clerk with Stay Housed LA at the Los Angeles Eviction Defense Project with Bet Tzedek.
- Worked as a clinical student at Michigan Law’s Zell Entrepreneurship Clinic, where she worked with Detroit technology startups drafting patents and trademarks as well as counseling clients on matters of entity formation, contracts, financing, and deal-making.
- In the past, maintained an active pro bono practice working with entrepreneurs, veterans, local libraries, and housing law initiatives.
